Jarno secures VRT's network on Tomorrowland
Already at the age of 16, Jarno got interested in IT. During secondary school, he studied IT management and later, he finished a Bachelor's course in Network and System Administration.
When he graduated in 2012, he immediately started working at AUSY: "My university college allowed me to attend a job fair, and that's where I got to know AUSY. I got interviewed by different companies, but only AUSY made me feel comfortable. The account managers and recruiters value you as a person and want to help you to shape your career."
Jarno continues: "AUSY immediately offered me a job in the network world: I started as a Junior Network Engineer at Proximus. That was a great start of my career."
"Well over a year later, I started working as a Junior Network & Security Engineer at VRT. I have also worked at the European Commission for a little while, but now, I am working again at VRT as a Senior Network & Security Engineer.
Junior or senior: what's the difference?
"At the start of my career, I mostly performed operational tasks. Today, I get to think about the network designs, and I mostly work project based."
"For example, I worked on 3 of Belgium's largest music festivals. During Pukkelpop, Rock Werchter and Tomorrowland, I entered the festival field together with Studio Brussels and Canvas."
"What I do during the festivals? I set up the local VRT network, assure the connection with the VRT in Brussels and I secure the network. I also walk around on the festival field itself. That's a nice advantage of course. I also secured the VRT network for Music for Life and the Olympics."
Certificates pushed career in the right direction
Jarno obtained his CCNA Security, CCNP Routing & Switching, and Juniper JNCIS Security certificate. Especially at the start of his career, he made time to study: "AUSY's Training Officer really supported me. As a result, I quickly got my career going."
And what about the future? Jarno would love to broaden his knowledge: "By now, I have a large understanding of networks, but I would love to solve every aspect of a network problem. That requires not only the right soft skills but also an in-depth technical knowledge. That's why I want to broaden my knowledge and also learn more about programming and operating systems.
